Accessibility Features

TTY

A TTY or Telephone Device allows people with hearing and/or speech loss to make and receive telephone calls. GoSmart offers a wide array of handsets that are compatible with TTY devices. On some phones, the TTY feature must be activated in order to maximize TTY performance. Please consult the phone user guide.

TTY Limitations for 911 Calls: Due to technical limitations, Wi-Fi Calling cannot be used with TTY devices and will not support 911 calls over TTY devices. Persons with communications disabilities can still reach 911 services by either (1) calling 911 directly using a TTY over the cellular network or from a landline telephone, or (2) sending a text message to 911 directly (in areas where text-to-911 is available) from a wireless device, or (3) using relay services to place a TTY or captioned telephone service (CTS) call from a wireless phone over the cellular network or from a landline telephone, or (4) using relay services to place a IP Relay or IP CTS call over a cellular data or other IP network.

Real Time Text (RTT)

Real-Time Text (RTT) helps customers with disabilities communicate over the wireless network as an alternative to TTY. RTT uses a free-flowing mix of text and voice conversation, so as quickly as characters are typed on the sending device, they are displayed on the receiving device. Real Time Text is great for everyday communication and is compatible with emergency calls, just as TTY is today.

Real-Time Text lets customers with disabilities communicate using devices and services that work over the cellular network, and it works when using Wi-Fi Calling.

  • Eliminates the need to connect to mobile TTY devices.
  • Offers a more natural, conversational flow compared to TTY and relay service for persons who are deaf, hard-of-hearing, or have speech disabilities.
  • Supports simultaneous text and speech on RTT-to-RTT calls.

What is Wi-Fi Calling ?

It is a feature that allows you to make and receive calls and send and receive messages over Wi-Fi. To use this feature, make sure your phone:

  • Is Active.
  • Has a Wi-Fi calling SIM Card.
  • Has Wi-Fi calling capabilities (not all phone models support Wi-Fi calling).

Directory Assistance

GoSmart lets you dial 411 from your wireless phone for information. Dial 411 to quickly get local and national numbers and addresses.
